    The Challenge

    An industry leader in next-generation mobile technology, Qualcomm suffered low brand awareness despite their pioneering innovation successes. Complicating matters, research showed that Qualcomm’s different targets didn’t give the company credit for its contributions simply because the brand name didn’t appear on the actual mobile devices it helped succeed. At Atmosphere, we knew if Qualcomm could find a way to show how their inventions and inspirations enhanced people’s everyday lives, as well as demonstrate their engineers’ passion for inventing the next wave of new technologies, they’d get the recognition and awareness they deserved. So to promote the company and its business model to partners, investors, consumers, press, job seekers and other key targets, Qualcomm asked Atmosphere to develop its first communication positioning and brand articulation using the company’s corporate website as the main vehicle.

    The Solution

    Since the story Qualcomm wanted to tell a potential manufacturing or telecom partner was vastly different from the story it would shape for a consumer or even an investor, we restructured and redesigned Qualcomm.com to create a narrative-driven homepage experience that could be dynamically customized by every visitor to the site. With an engaging rollover navigation experience that caused the entire homepage to instantly reconfigure, we created an intuitive segmentation of the site’s information architecture that permitted anyone with an interest in the company to gain an immediate, tailored and graphic understanding of Qualcomm’s mission, innovations and corporate structure. Beyond establishing a quick and relevant connection with visitors, this initial experience was designed to reinforce Qualcomm's positioning as a visionary company on the cutting edge of one of today's most important markets.

    The Results

    Based on Qualcomm’s initial goals, the new site and experience has significantly helped this influential brand relate its central role in creating and fostering today’s ubiquitous mobile landscape. In fact, Qualcomm considered our brand narrative and creative expression so successful that it has extended our tone, look and feel into every marketing vehicle in its messaging platform. As the wireless world continues to evolve at breathtaking speed, we are currently engaging in a new branding effort for Qualcomm, and look forward to employing the digital channel in even more immersible ways to help the company demonstrate the positive impact it has had on people’s lives.
